Paramount Gets a "Puppy"

Paramount Pictures has been “poking” around, picking up a new pitch from writer John Hackney. Story is described as a darker look at the classic children’s story “The Poky Little Puppy.” In the new version, tentatively titled “Death Puppy of Doom,” the story follows a young rotweiler who kills everyone around him in his search for desserts.

“People love darker versions of stories that have already been told,” said Paramount topper Martin Scaria. “We feel there’s something very comforting about watching the same thing again and again, but with a slight variation each time.”

“Death Puppy” is the latest from studio-hopping Hackney who has two other scripts in play: “Curious George and the Chamber of Knives” at Universal, and “Winnie the Pooh: Stripper Killer,” at Disney.
